Hemkund Sahib, situated at an impressive altitude of 4329
meters, holds the distinction of being the highest Gurudwara in the world.
Nestled in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, near the scenic Valley of Flowers,
this revered shrine derives its name from the nearby glacial lake, Hemkund,
which translates to the 'Lake of Snow.' Dedicated to the tenth Sikh Guru, Sri
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708), Hemkund Sahib is prominently mentioned in the
Dasam Granth, a sacred text dedicated to Guru Ji. Alongside the Gurudwara, a
small temple honoring Lakshman, Lord Rama's brother, stands gracefully on the
shores of Hemkund Lake.
