We were hoping to get into new adventure this year and to our utter surprise we were invited to this trip to Rajasthan by my sister-in-law. She organized the whole trip for us and we just had to hop on the train. Though everyone warned about the timing of our trip but in my enthusiasm for traveling I was least bothered about the weather. Our journey by the Rajdhani express was little troubled as our ticket was not confirmed even when our trip had been booked 2 months earlier. Anyhow our seats were confirmed inside the train and we had a sigh of relief. Traveling by the train was always a treat for me. Watching the trees and mountains pass by the window is a fascinating time pass for me. We reached the Abu station around 8 am in the morning. My relative was waiting there patiently for me for our arrival. He arranged for a jeep for us as Mount Abu is around 21 km from the Abu station.
The weather here was little warm at the station and I hoped to find a cooler temperature at Mount Abu.The jeep was cruising through the roads that had been laid around the Aravalli range. The sun was blazing with heat even though it was only 9am in the morning. The forest surrounding the road was full of kikar trees and I was told that bears and monkeys were a common sight here.To our delight we were able to see some macac monkeys on the roads. Finally we did reach our hotel at around 11 am in the morning ,we rushed for bath there and our stomach were empty so luch was ordered
.
In the evening we planned to see the famous sunset point. We chalked out our plan to walk till the sunset point. We asked for directions and headed towards Sunset point. It was fairly away from our hotel but because of lovely people I was with,I never thought I was walking. Little kids with my sister in law were soon finding it difficult to scale the distance so a carrier like thing was hired for kids to travel. We were enjoying waling so we scaled the height to the sunset point.Lot of people were already hanging there as we arrived. Every nook and corner of the place seemed full. Soon we too had captured a rock at the hill and started waiting for the sun to go down. Eventually the sunset occurred and I was a splendid moment with sky changing its color with the sun.
In the morning we were all pumped up to go and see allMount Abu had to offer. Our first destination was Honeymoon point. A large rock complex was there and in front of it was a vast plains of Mount Abu . People were sitting there holding hand in hand. We hopped from one rock to another to get beautiful view of the open spaces below. We sat there for ten minutes and trotted ahead to a nearby Shiva temple, The heat was killing us and the floor of the temple was not allowing us to put our foot on the ground. We prayed for a while at the temple and then marched ahead.
Our next stop was going to be the Brahmakumaris Peace Hall.It is a beautiful white building well maintained with lush green plants and trees. All of us were organized into a group of 20 people and a volunteer took us inside the place and kept asking us to be quite. The inside of the building was enourmous with sitting arrangements of around 1000 people inside it.The volunteer then made the group sit on the chairs and started out a well rehearsed talk in spritualism. After 15 minutes the volunteer escorted us around the building and finally to the exit. Here books about brahmakumaris and moral values were on display and we bought some the books.
Adhar devi temple situated at the hill has so many stairs to climb. It was fun just to walk with my group with so many monkeys around us.Some devotees were offering the bananas to them.At the temple we had to part off with our mobiles and purses etc. and go inside the temple. It was a narrow entrance to the temple carved out of a rock.We paid our homage to the eternal force and climbed down the innumerable stairs leading to our jeep.
We also visited another temple at Achaleshwar.A pond was dug up there and according to the people there, three bulls drank up all the water present at the Achaleshwar.Statues of three bulls was adoring the banks of the dried up pond there.Peace park was another attraction at our guides list, this park too is maintained by brahmakumaris and we hoped to see different varieties of plant and flowers. We were not disappointed in this regard but for gaining entry into the park wehad to undergo another spiritual talk at the entrance.Rules at the park are simple,no touching of flowers,go in a line while in the park.No turning back as the entry and exit are from different gates.

View from GuruShikhar,Mount AbuMount Abu video |
Gurushikhar was one of the attractions that I personally liked. A temple situated at the hill top and a amazing view of the observatory from the top was a thrilling moment. Though the air was cool but the heat was immense specially at the top. I found a shade at the panwalla who was doing brisk business at the hill top. The view was amazing with cool breeze blowing and a observatory which kept moving its roof every minute. The surrounding reminded me of barren land at the moon surface, and vegetation was to a bare minimum.
At the evening we strolled down from our hotel to Nakki lake. This lake is called as Nakki lake because a sadhu dug up the lake with his nails (Nakh). That day a tribal festival was being celebrated at the lake. The tribals were dancing and singing with garlands around their neck. I was told that it was a annual festival to remember old ones and to search for suitable brides and grooms. We sat down at the banks of lake and munched popcorns .We fed the fishes there with popcorns and they seemed to welcome us at there place. We took some pictures of sun drowning behind the lake waters and of people rowing boats at the lake.
Dilwara Jain temple,Mount Abu Mount Abu video |
Dilwara temple is an old jain temple with intricate architecture adoring the walls of beautiful monuments. Here too a group of devotees were organized into groups and taken inside the temple .A priest was attached to this group who narrated the history of the temple. The walls are work of art as every stone is carved into a masterpiece. The workers at the time of construction were paid by weighing the amount of stone dust created by worker to encourage the intricate designs. A golden statue at the temple is a major attraction. The temple is named so because the workers built a new temple in the complex area working during the lunch hours and with waste material generated while building the monument.
Our last destination at the Mount Abu was Gaumukh .We had to walk down to the bus station to hire a taxi for Gaumukh. A jeep was finalized for this purpose and the man driving it was Mr.Nasir. He was a funny man entertaining us all the way to the entry point of Gaumukh. The road was all green and slopes were almost standing vertical. We doubted whether we could scale the heights in this jeep but Mr Nasir kept on going in first gear taking us up and up and away.
As we reached the entry point the entry point of Gaumukh we were welcomed by footsteps going into deep forest below, into the valley. The tourists who were coming back were panting and resting on the side walls for breath. We looked into each others eyes and gulped whether we could do that too. But we never stopped and kept going down and down the stairs. People coming up kept smiling at us and we thought if they can do this so can we. Unending stairs kept coming and we rested and continued our journey. At last we heard sound of people giggling and splashing of water. I was thrilled and the pace of my legs doubled up. The scene below was amazing, water from nowhere was pouring down into a pool. A simple temple was built alongside the pool and trees surrounded the temple from all sides. The water came from mouth of a cow and hence the name Gaumukh. The temple from inside was oozing peace and serenity and I sat down there for few minutes. We came out of the temple peaceful and rejuvenated and ready to take on the stairs once again. We did well and managed to climb back up the stairs alive.
I always had image of Rajasthan in my mind but the perception was proved wrong at Mount Abu. It was like oasis in the desert. It consisted of lakes, markets, mountains, rocky plains and jungles. We enjoyed every bit of the trip. Overall the trip was a great adventure.
