Apart from Stupa there are many beautiful Buddhist art and buildings that are worth viewing. The teachings of Great Buddha adorn this place that will show you eternal truth and will guide you in your spiritual journey.

The amazing Stupa was built by a Great Emperor named Ashoka a long long ago. He wanted to honour Lord Buddha, so he made these Large domes called Stupas to keep important relics of Lord Buddha inside it. This place is 54 feet high and has special things inside it.

Queen Devi and Daughter Vidisha helped in construction of Sanchi stupa . There is a special pillar made of sandstone that has Schism edict on it. The letters on the pillar look like spiral shells and they are called as 'Shankhlipi'. The lower part of the stupa is strong and steady, while the upper parts are protected by something called as 'Chattra'. Its like a special umbrella that keeps it safe.

History of Sanchi Stupa

A long time ago, there was a strong General named Pushyamitra Shunga who became the leader of Shunga Dynasty and He defeated the last emperor of Mauryan Empire, Brihadratha Maurya, in 185 BCE. When this happened , stupa was destroyed in parts due to the war. But then, Pushyamitra's son, Agnimitra rebuilt it and brought Stupa back to life again.

The Stupas became almost twice as big to show how much they respected Buddhism. They changed the dome from bricks to flat stone slabs. On top of the dome, they put three beautiful umbrella like things that stood for the 'Wheel of Law' or Dharma. if you go up the stairs you can reach a high spot where you think about things that are important in life.
